Course Description

This course explores the fundamental geochemical processes which affect the fate and transport of inorganic and organic pollutants in the terrestrial environment. The course will cover both equilibrium and kinetic descriptions of the processes which affect the fate of pollutants. W will link the effects of these processes on pollutant bioavailability, remediation and ecotoxicology.

We will conceptualize the Earth as a system, focusing on specific surficial systems such as soils, sediments, groundwater, lakes, wetlands and estuaries. In particular, we will explore the use of a reductionist approach to the understanding of these complex systems.
